Long-term storage requires more care to ensure items remain undamaged over time.
- Clean and Dry Everything:
- Clean furniture, appliances, and clothes to prevent mold, mildew, and odors.
- Ensure all items are completely dry before storing.
- Use Quality Packing Materials:
- Use sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and packing paper to protect items.
- Avoid using plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and promote mold.
- Disassemble Furniture:
- Take apart large furniture to save space and prevent stress on joints.
- Wrap disassembled pieces in protective material and label them for reassembly.
- Protect Against Damage:
- Use mattress covers, furniture blankets, and plastic sheeting for protection.
- Add silica gel packs to boxes with sensitive items to absorb moisture.
- Avoid Overpacking Boxes:
- Overfilled boxes can crush under weight. Keep them manageable and sturdy.
- Use Pallets or Shelving:
- Elevate items off the floor to protect them from potential water damage or pests.
- Install freestanding shelving for easier organization.
- Climate Control:
- Consider a climate-controlled unit for items sensitive to temperature or humidity, like wood furniture, electronics, or documents.
- Seal Boxes Tightly:
- Use strong packing tape to secure boxes.
- Ensure lids are flat for better stacking.
- Label Everything:
- Write detailed labels, including contents and room designation.
- Use waterproof markers to prevent fading.
- Regularly Check Your Unit (if possible):
- Visit periodically to inspect for any signs of damage, pests, or moisture issues.
We do offer a pretty nice incentive for our long-term customers who prepay. When you prepay for a year, you get your last month free or $100 off the last month if your unit is over $100.
